[notes] 李建業’s talk

禮拜二聽了李建業的talk,
真的覺得很有意思!!!!!

是一場收穫很多的演講🙂

題目是:Emerging service Platform for Broadband Wireless Communications

Technology Centric -> Service centric
Operators -> users
A system design -> A common platform design
Static application -> dynamic applications

Requirement of Platform
– Ubiquitous
– Real time

Common Platform for Radio Access
– Develop Cognitive Radio
– Located at APs
– Handsets can be single mode or dual mode
– A scanning cognitive radio at each AP

Construction of Service Platform for Broadand Communications
– Use of AI
– Common Platform
– user-level service
– service convergence
– open service platform

Evolution of Service Platforms
– 過去: User (透過 Service Registry, Search Engine) 找 Service
找完 user 就直接連到 service
– 現在: User 透過 Service Registry,Search Engine Session Manager[*] 找 service
user 一直透過 home network 來 access service

User’s Back House Concept
– User 的很多東西都存在 Back Houe 中, 不一定要經過 [*]

A Service Ubiquitous Invocation Model
– A user 要用 B 的 location 資訊:
A 透過 session manager[*]… 找到 B 的 session manager… 找到B

A Network of Service Roaming and Mobility
(An overlay cross-domain service collaboration)
– A 有 location register… 同樣 透過 session manager 找到 B
但接下來這些資訊存在 back house 裡

Current Situation of Wireless Communications
– No common core network with a universal protocol for wireless
communication systems
– Many different IP based packet core networks
– Many different mobility management protocols
– Power consumption of broad-band handsets is very high
# voice: man to man; 其他: man to machine

The future technology for 4G
– Requirement from ITU
– (1998 年) 1Gbps data speed when stationary
– 100Mbps data peed when moving
– to meet the requirement with minimum bandwidth will be the winner
– This requirement is used for high spectral efficiency in data transmission
– No requirement for voice tranmission….

New Thinking in 4G
– Common platforms — for radio and services
– Dual mode handset
– use CDMA technology for voice
# man to man
– use OFDM technology for high speed data
# man to machine
# CDMA 是一個語音很棒的 technology; 雖然有 VoIP, 但是他的 freq 之間會有干擾
– VoIP can work very effectively on IP channels via fiber cabies but not on
radio channels (Limited bandwidth cn not cope with real time services)
# 在 limit bandwidth 的時候很難達到好的效果
– Wireline and wireless networks will be converged
# 節省 resource
– Virtual mobile node concept for low power consumption handsets

To Reduce Handset Power COnsumption in Broadband Wireless Communication
# 除了原來的 model 之外, 還多一個 back house, 因為 back house 比較近
所以比較沒有 power 的問題

– Display, Memory, AIC, Service Request & Command, GPS, Radio

The users’ expectation o 4G Services
– Can have ocial contact and entertainment
– Can have vitual meeting and virtual conferences
– Become a personal mobile office
– Operating with long hours
– Reduction of traffic jam and air pollution
# user 坐在家裡就可以做所有事情, office 也在手機上, 所以可以不會有 traffic jam
– Creat a safe cociety
# 因為手機上有照相機等等, 所以社會更安全
# terminal 上要有什麼? 電腦?無線通訊?location?GPS?
# 我們到底要做的是  手上的 terminal 呢 (man to machine/man to man)
還是 machine to machine (ex. RFID, sensor network)

Conclusion
– Design a Next Generation Network with common platforms which can be capable
to preserve and accommodated the best technologies without changing
the newtork architecture
– Using IP based distributed network and mobile management
– A common platform needs predictability, stability, flexbility, extenibility
and scalability
– Operator paradigm is changing from technology centric to service centric
– Service platform – reqirees ubiquitous, real-time, qualoty and mobility for
4G services
– Suggesting a ubiquitous network (service roaming and mobility) for
broadband communications
– New thinking in 4G
– Common service platform and user’s back house concept for the low power
consumption handsets
– The user’s expectation of 4G services

liny 老師補充:Voice 還是回歸 CDMA (不過如果是 GSM 更好 XD)
VoIP 完全沒辦法達到語音的要求

plin 問題:
back house: 在移動的時候放上去; 有電源的話就不 by pass, 回覆原來的樣子

在 communication 還是會省掉一些 traffic

liny 老師補充:有點像是 agent 的概念
不過詳細的情況還是要看看她的 protocol 要怎麼 implement

CDMA 晶片, OFDM 晶片通通都放在一起 (讓每個晶片專攻自己的事情)
如果是一個晶片做很多事情, 那麼 quality 可能不好, power 消耗一定兩個晶片大
一開始 dispatch 他要做什麼, 就直接分給哪個晶片 這樣就好了
不一定要做到DSP
反正越做越小😀
multi-core😛 反正就放好幾個 CPU, 做不一樣的事情

context switch: 手機目前的OS做的不好
比如說我正在edit buddy list, 電話進來了, 那就要重新 edit

iPhone: 做的很棒, 轉變很 smooth😀
